Ky Furneaux is an award-winning author, internationally acclaimed survival expert, award winning Hollywood stunt performer, television presenter and leadership advocate. With more than two decades of experience working in some of the world’s most demanding environments, she has built a career around helping people become more capable, resilient and prepared, whether in the wilderness, the workplace or everyday life. Ky is one of the world’s most published survival authors, with nine traditionally published survival and adventure books released through major publishers including Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster and HarperCollins. Her books have reached readers across the globe and cover topics ranging from wilderness survival and emergency preparedness to resilience, self-reliance and inspiring young people to embrace adventure. Her latest children’s title, Adventure Awaits, was awarded Gold at the Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPYs) and named Winner of the International Book Awards in Children’s Educational, further cementing her reputation as one of Australia’s leading voices in outdoor education. Her survival expertise has been showcased on television around the world. Ky co-created and co-hosted Outback Lockdown, which aired internationally on Discovery Channel and in Australia on 7mate and NITV, introducing viewers to practical survival and bushcraft skills through entertaining real-world challenges. She is also one of the most experienced female participants in the history of Discovery Channel’s Naked and Afraid, having completed nine survival challenges across some of the world’s harshest environments, including the Louisiana swamps, the Bahamas, the Ecuadorian Amazon, the frozen mountains of Montana and the Colombian wilderness. Her performances have demonstrated not only exceptional survival skills but also resilience, leadership and an ability to thrive under extreme pressure. Ky has competed alongside some of the biggest names in the survival world. She was personally selected by renowned adventurer Ed Stafford as the only woman to race against him in Discovery’s First Man Out, battling through the high-altitude wilderness of China’s spectacular Four Sisters Mountain Range. She also won Channel 7’s Ultimate Escape, further establishing herself as one of the world’s most accomplished survival personalities. Away from survival television, Ky has enjoyed an extraordinary career in the film industry as an international award-winning Hollywood stunt performer. Her credits include blockbuster productions such as The Avengers, Thor, X-Men, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hancock and numerous other feature films and television productions. In 2012 she received the prestigious Taurus World Stunt Award for Best Female Stunt Performer, widely regarded as the stunt industry’s equivalent of an Academy Award. Today, Ky combines her unique background across survival, film and education to consult on television and feature films, ensuring authenticity and safety in wilderness-based productions. She has worked as a survival consultant on major productions including Discovery’s Naked and Afraid and the feature film Send Help, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sam Raimi and starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien. Beyond television and film, Ky is a sought-after keynote speaker, leadership facilitator and educator. Her remarkable personal story, from suffering a broken back in a serious car accident at nineteen and being told she may never live an active life again, to becoming one of the world’s most recognised female survival experts, has inspired audiences around the world. Her presentations blend powerful storytelling with practical lessons in resilience, decision-making, leadership and overcoming adversity. Ky is passionate about building stronger leaders within the outdoor industry and currently serves as Program Manager of the Pinnacle Leadership Program for Outdoors NSW & ACT, Australia’s premier leadership development program for emerging outdoor professionals. She is also the Outdoor Ambassador for Outdoors NSW & ACT, where she champions safe participation in outdoor recreation and advocates for greater diversity and leadership within the industry. Whether surviving alone in remote wilderness, creating stunt sequences on Hollywood film sets, writing award-winning books or mentoring the next generation of outdoor leaders, Ky’s mission remains the same: to give people the confidence, skills and mindset to face uncertainty with courage. Her career is built on a simple belief that resilience isn’t something you’re born with, it’s something you learn.
