Preparation Is The Key To Success

Now it may seem to you all that I am spending a large amount of time talking about everything BUT how to begin to put a workout together but believe me, the most important thing that is going to help you succeed in getting fit is the ATTITUDE that you enter into your fitness with.


I Think I Can, I Think I Can

Self-motivation is one of the hardest things to maintain over a long period of time, especially if you are trying to go it alone.

Do you think Batman (of the Adam West variety) would have lasted 120 episodes if he didn’t have his partner in fighting crime next to him?  I don’t think so.  Even in later movie versions he still has the aide of his manservant to help him out when times get tough.


Belly Bulging Super Hero Loses Job…

I mostly train alone but it takes a lot to drag my ass out of bed every day.  I have to be fit and strong for my job so I usually just picture myself in the Elektra outfit with a muffin top instead of a flat tummy and people re-casting me on the spot and that gets me going.  But what about the times when I don’t have a job lined up and I feel just too damn tired?  These are the times I lean on others to help me get going.


Buy Yourself Some Motivation

If I can afford it, I will hire a personal trainer to get me through those times.  The thing is, personal trainers are pretty expensive and I believe that you should do some form of exercise 5-6 times a week for good results, so that’s some serious dough that I would be forking out.

Another form of motivation is paying for a monthly class somewhere.  This is a good way to get me moving.  I calculate that in order for my money to be spent wisely I have to go to that place about 20 times in a month (rough estimate) and I hate wasting money so the fact I have paid upfront gets me there when I’d rather stay in bed.


Yay Team!

But most of all, I employ the buddy system.  I find that this works the best.  If you have a friend in the same boat as you, start this program together.  Make a time to meet each day, maybe before work so it’s too late to cancel if you wake up and feel lazy.  You don’t want to let this friend down by not turning up and that may be all the motivation you need.  This also means you have someone to share the experience with, someone who aches when you ache and whines about the early hour too.  It will make you feel like you are not alone in what you are going through.  They may be having a good day when you are having a bad one, so they can prop you up and get you through, and visa versa.


Find Your Groove

Some people find a person to train with that is at a different level of training than they are.  I find that ultimately this doesn’t work as well for me.  If they are fitter, you do learn from them but may become unmotivated as they forge ahead without you.  If they are less fit, you may settle back into their pace and not achieve YOUR fitness goals.  But at the end of the day, if you have someone that can just get you to a place to train and you train separately, then you are ahead of the game.


It’s Go Time

So people, it is time to enlist your partner in crime fighting and get ready to take on the world…  Or you may choose to undertake this mission alone, Bond style.  Either way, you are now ready to begin to change your world.
